Layla is 9 months old and weighs 19 lbs. She is a cuddle bug that loves to run outdoors. She can be shy and may take a few hours to warm up but after she gets to trust you, she will be your best friend. She is comfortable in her crate but will always prefer to be on a couch near her human or a dog friend. She is friendly with all dogs. We are unsure about how she behaves with cats because there are no kittens in her foster home. Layla is food-driven which makes things easier when it comes to training. Sometimes she pancakes when walking on leash. She will need a patient adopter who can teach her how to gain more confidence with the leash. Rescue story: Layla and her brother Max were found in an abandoned park in north Houston (well known dumping area for dogs). Thankfully, they were found and taken to a foster home. Laylais up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (puppies under the age of 6 months may not be sterilized prior to adoption, if this is the case your adoption coordinator will discuss the process with you). All breeds listed are educated best estimates by transferring shelter staff, our volunteers or our vets. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them the All American MUTT. Our dogs are rescued from various situations (kill-shelters, owner surrenders, strays, etc). It is most likely that both their parents were strays and mixes of some sort. If you are interested in this dog, you MUST submit an application. Sandy Paws Rescue does not a have a public shelter in Mass, so there is no building you can visit without an appointment. Our dogs live in private foster homes or boarding kennels down south until adopted, and foster care homes through out MV, Cape Cod and other parts of MA. A majority of our dogs are adopted/spoken for prior to transport and release from state mandated isolation.
